As a general rule, this blog is about celebrities in the entertainment arena. However this time I will blog about a celebrity in the political world.
Lim Guan Eng is the 4th Chief Minister of the State of Penang and Secretary-General of the Malaysian Democratic Action Party (DAP). DAP completed a clean sweep of all 19 Penang state seats it contested in the 12th Malaysian General Election. He is the son of Lim Kit Siang, the Opposition Leader in the Malaysian Parliament, and is married to Betty Chew, another prominent member of the DAP.
Early Education
Lim Guan Eng attended the La Salle Primary English School in Petaling Jaya, and later the Batu Pahat Montfort Primary English School. For secondary education, he went to Batu Pahat High School and Melaka High School. He graduated from Monash University, Australia in Bachelor of Economics and was a qualified professional accountant by 1983. He was the president of MUISS (Monash University International Student Society).
Political Career
Lim was first elected as a Member of Parliament for Kota Melaka in 1986, after defeating Soh Chin Aun with a majority of 17606 votes. He was re-elected in the subsequent 1990 and 1995 general elections, albeit with reducing majority votes. He thus became the first person to be elected for three consecutive terms in Kota Melaka. He was also the first Melaka High School alumni to achieve this.
In the Democratic Action Party, he was appointed as the DAP Socialist Youth Chairman in 1989 and was elected to that post in 1992. In 1995, he was elected as the DAP Deputy Secretary-General. Lim was elected as the party Secretary-General in 2004, and has held the position since.
Lim was arrested by Malaysian police in 1994, following his criticism of the government’s handling of allegations of statutory rape of one of his constituents by former Chief Minister of the state of Melaka, Tan Sri Abdul Rahim Thamby Chik. Consequently, while the Attorney General decided not to charge Rahim Thamby Chik, Lim was charged under Section 4(1) (b) of the Sedition Act 1948 for causing ‘disaffection with the administration of justice in Malaysia’. Lim was also charged under Section 8A (1) of the Printing Presses and Publications Act 1984 for ‘maliciously printing’ a pamphlet containing allegedly ‘false information’ because he had described the alleged rape victim as an ‘imprisoned victim’ because she was initially detained by Malaysian police without parental consent for 10 days.
After a series of appeals, Lim was sentenced to 18 months imprisonment. He was, however, released after 12 months on August 25th 1999. Due to his incarceration he was disallowed from standing for election to public office for a period of 5 years, and he was therefore ineligible to contest in the 2004 Malaysian General Election. He is a candidate in the Bagan parliamentary seat as well as the Air Puteh state assembly seat in Penang in the 12th Malaysian General Election.
In 2005, Lim suffered a surprise defeat in his campaign for re-election to the Melaka DAP committee when he and his wife came in last and second-last (respectively). However, as Lim remained Secretary-General of the party, he was automatically included among the committee under the party constitution. Although his wife remained the chief of the state DAP women’s wing, she was not included in the committee. Teresa Kok, a DAP Member of Parliament, suggested there was a conspiracy behind Lim’s and Chew’s ouster from the committee.
In the 2008 general elections, Lim made a political comeback, winning both the Bagan parliamentary seat and the Air Putih state seat in Penang. He is presently the Chief Minister (CM) of Penang, after leading the DAP to success in wresting the state from the Barisan Nasional.
Lim is married to Betty Chew . They have four children.
Certain quarters have claimed I plagarized some Iban lyrics to a song. It is due to to a misunderstanding. I did sms to cibol asking for permission to use the Iban lyrics and he replied, “No problem.” I view it as a misunderstanding. To any offended parties however, I extend my sincere apologies. I have removed the offending lyrics.
I have recently been converted to using international calling cards. It is convenient and saves money. I save 3% on every call I make. I got the info from GetMeCallingCards.com. They carry phone cards and calling cards that can be used to make international calls from any country in the world.
Be selective though. Choose one which fits your needs. Some of the phone cards have state of the art Automatic Number Identification (ANI) recognition system that allows pinless dialing, some are rechargeable and some offer 3% cash back on every purchase.
I use international call back calling cards as I often travel around the world. I spend lots of phone calls so it is a convenient and economical way for me to save money on telephone bills.

Met Larry recently. He found out I had bought a New York Yankees Spring Training tickets. He told me of his experience. Apparently it was an awesome experience. He combined a holiday with the New York Yankees Spring Training. Legends Field Tickets.
He attended spring training with the New York Yankees at Legends Field in Tampa FL. He told me it was the best site although he didn’t know it then. The crisp spring air makes it a great time of the year to be outdoors. It was a wonderful time with the changing of the seasons, and watching the colors of the world changing in the space of a few weeks. You can literally experience the cold, brisk afternoons turning into warm, wonderful days.
He told me not to miss my chance to be at my favorite spring training facilities. There is nothing like a real life encounter with my sporting heroes. Television doesn’t count! I will make sure I have my camera and video camera primed up for optimum performance. I will cherish the chance of seeing my heroes and future heroes getting their arms warmed up and bats swinging for the new season.

I think the whole entertainment industry and its followers in the nation are relieved that finally veteran actress Yusni Jaafar is reunited with her family. Blood ties are thicker than water. Let us not look at circumstances in the past but look ahead into the future.
Her health hasn’t been too good lately and she is in the Selayang Hospital. Her children. Raja Ema, 39, Raja Iskandar, 41, Raja Izat, 38, Raja Emey, 30 and Raja Erna, 22 all came to visit her.
Other than family, Radhi Khalid, Salwa Abdul Rahman, Chef Yang Jamil, Syanie, Ruhani Abdul Rahman, Wahid Nasir, Datuk Aziz Sattar and Datin, and Freddie Fernandez also visited her.
The following is what I could google. I cannot say it is comprehensive or even accurate. Please correct me if I am mistaken.
